I honestly can't tell if this app does literally anything. The banner doesn't appear in any way, shape, or form, even after trying to preview it. I haven't seen it on any browser, even if I'm using incognito mode. I've tried many different settings and configurations, but nothing seems to change. Also the opt-out aspect doesn't seem to do anything. It simply generates a page with opt-out info, no actual way to opt-out of data collection. Am I missing something here, or is this app 100% useless?
After chatting with shopify support when I experienced what several other users complained of below, I was able to determine what I believe to be the downfall of this app. The banner is based on the location of where the customer IP is from. Since I am in WA state, it will not show. If you have a VPN and set for a European country, or California, it will show.
Would be great if this app allowed all users to accept or decline, since that is the norm these days, but that is not the case for this app.
This isn't even the bare minimum... Since there is no opt-out function, it is impossible to have a truly GDPR-compliant Shopify website (without hiring developers to custom code something I guess?) I thought using Shopify meant I wouldn't have to learn how to code or hire developers. And I thought Shopify would help us sell worldwide (your homepage hero banner currently says "The global commerce platform"). Why do we all have to figure this out on our own? Wouldn't Shopify's developers be in the best position to build a proper opt-out app? I am embarrassed to have this banner on my shop.
Really easy to set up but as soon as it was added to the store website traffic was seriously affected. I've now installed a different app which instantly restored traffic.
App works well, if not with some limitations. The cookie banner only appears to GDPR-covered regions, and the CCPA data sale/sharing opt-out email box is only active for relevant regions. Understandable why some stores may want to make these more broadly applicable.
Basic customizations for the cookie banner, like color and wording, are easy enough, but more detailed customizations will require some CSS work within.
