We’re Rolling out Locations to Merchants: Here's What You Need to Know

Shopify Locations: 2018

As merchant needs increase, so do the capabilities we add to our commerce platform.

The way merchants get their products and store their inventory, as well as the places they sell from have all evolved. To help with this newfound complexity, we announced Locations at Unite this year—a new feature that gives Shopify merchants visibility and control over how inventory moves between different locations.

No more spreadsheets, no more duplicate products, no more anxiety.

Today, we’re thrilled to share that Locations has started rolling out to all Shopify merchants, and will be available to everyone within the next couple weeks. Merchants will be able to track their inventory and manage orders across all their locations with simple and intuitive interfaces. This means that Shopify can now better support merchants who sell from multiple locations.

Bridging the gap between online and offline

As merchant businesses expand, the number of locations they sell, store, and source from increases. With the roll out of Locations comes a new section in the Shopify Admin that allows merchants to view all locations they source and sell from, in one single place.

Adding new value to merchant businesses

When onboarding new clients, Shopify now provides a better out of the box solution to help you get your clients up and running faster. This makes it easier to work with new types of merchants, who have both physical and digital stores.

Apps can also start to create location-aware functionality for merchants. Apps likeStore Pickup + Deliveryallows merchants to arrange in-store pick-ups. Merchants can specify a location’s available pick up times and buyers can pick up their order at the closest location with available inventory.

Become an invaluable part of merchant businesses

From online merchants who run occasional pop-up shops, to merchants with brick-and-mortar stores, Locations is an important feature for all stores looking to grow their business. This is why we’ve built this central concept into the core of Shopify.

Whether you currently have an app that could use Locations, or are an agency looking to help onboard clients with multiple locations, this new feature opens up a whole new world of possibilities for Shopify Partners.
