The product photos on your website and social media need to be eye catching and show your products at their absolute best. Even without professional photo editing, there are a handful of easy tweaks you can make, to quickly enhance your product photos. My name is Aidin Robbins. I'm a filmmaker and photographer. And today I want to share with you five easy tweaks you can make to quickly enhance your product photos.
-
And I'm actually going to be doing all of this on a smartphone. Just to demonstrate how simple these techniques really are. The first tweak we'll do is a white balance correction. This ensures that your product's colors appear accurate. For example, if your business sells wedding cakes, you don't want them to appear too yellow in your product photos because of an incorrect white balance. Next let's crop the image to best fit social media formatting.
-
This will ensure that the ad appears as large as possible, once it's posted to social media. Many product photos are taken horizontally, but horizontal posts on Instagram tend to be too small to show detail. The solution here is to use the crop tool and select four by five or eight by ten. Then just make sure the product is fully in frame. Next let's balance the exposure of the image, ensuring that it isn't too dark or too bright and adjusting the highlights and shadows to make sure we're not losing any detail in either of those areas.
-
If you're selling a black backpack, you may need to raise the exposure of the shadows to ensure that the detail in the pockets and zippers isn't lost. If you're selling wedding cakes, you may need to darken the exposure of the highlights to ensure that the intricate details in the icing are still visible. Next up let's de-noise and sharpen the image. Denoising removes distracting grain and noise from the darker areas of the field and sharpening and ensures, crisp detail, especially when posting to social media.
-
And finally, you can try adding a vignette. This simply darkens the edges of the frame to draw the eye to the product in the center. To recap, we first did a white balance correction, cropped the image to fit social media's formatting, balanced out the exposure, de noised and sharpened the photo and finally added a vignette. And now you should be well on your way to creating beautiful product photos.
