Customizing your checkout with apps

You can customize your checkout by adding apps to your checkout. App developers and Shopify partners build apps, and then publish them on theShopify App Store. You can install publicly available checkout apps, or request any in-house developers to create a custom app for you orhire a Shopify Expert.

After you install a checkout app to your Shopify admin, you can add it to your checkout using the checkout editor. Some checkout apps can be added only to specific areas of your checkout.

Install an app

If there are additional features or functionality that you want to add to your checkout, then explore if any apps can provide them for you. App developers and Shopify partners can build custom apps for you or you can install third-party apps from theShopify App Store.

Steps:

1. Go to theShopify App Store, and search for a checkout app that suits your business.
2. ClickAdd app.
3. ClickInstall app.

Add an installed app to your checkout

After you install your app, you need to add it to your checkout using the checkout editor. Some apps can be added only to specific areas of your checkout. There is a maximum limit of3 appsper highlighted area.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go toSettings>Checkout.
2. In theCheckout customizationsection, clickCustomizenext to the checkout that you want to edit.
3. Select the checkout page that you want to add an app to at the top menu bar.
4. ClickAdd app block.
5. In theApps available for this pagesection, click the app that you want to add to your checkout. The app is automatically placed in the recommended area of your checkout.
6. ClickSave.

After you add an app to your checkout, you can move the app and place it in your preferred checkout area.

Move and place an app

You can move and place an app within the blocks of the applicable checkout area. Some apps can be placed only to certain areas within checkout. The unavailable areas are greyed out when you try to drag and drop the app.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go toSettings>Checkout.
2. In theCheckout customizationsection, clickCustomizenext to the checkout that you want to edit.
3. Find the app that you want to move.
4. Click and drag the⋮⋮icon next to an app and move the app to another area.
5. ClickSave.

Configure an app

You can customize your checkout app's settings. Each app has unique settings that you can customize. The app settings are defined by the developer or partner who creates the app. If you have your own development team, then you can specify what settings you want to be able to customize yourself.

For example, if you're using an app that lets you create a custom banner, then you can customize the banner title, description, and status.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go toSettings>Checkout.
2. In theCheckout customizationsection, clickCustomizenext to the checkout that you want to edit.
3. Click the app that you want to configure.
4. Customize your app's settings.
5. ClickSave.

When you configure your app, you can also manage your app's behavior controls. These controls let you do the following:

• allow the app to block the checkout
• include the app in accelerated checkouts
  • automatically expand sections to show the app

Depending on the checkout app that you're configuring, some controls might not be available.

Allow an app to block your checkout

You can select whether to have an app block your checkout and reject an order if the customer provides incomplete or invalid information within the app.

For example, you have an app which adds a checkbox in your checkout that a customer needs to select. If you allow this app to block your checkout and your customer doesn't select this checkbox, then their order is automatically rejected.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go toSettings>Checkout.
2. In theCheckout customizationsection, clickCustomizenext to the checkout that you want to edit.
3. Click the app that you want to configure.
4. In theCheckout behaviorsection at the right sidebar, selectAllow app to block checkout.
5. ClickAllow app to block checkout.
6. ClickSave.

Include an app in accelerated checkout

You can select whether you want to include an app in your accelerated checkouts, such asShop Pay. You can also allow the app to force collapsed sections to expand automatically in accelerated checkouts.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go toSettings>Checkout.
2. In theCheckout customizationsection, clickCustomizenext to the checkout that you want to edit.
3. Click the app that you want to configure.
4. In theCheckout behaviorsection, selectInclude app in express checkouts.
5. Optional: SelectAutomatically expand sections to show appto expand closed sections.
6. ClickSave.
7. Optional: To preview how an accelerated checkout is displayed in your store, click the checkout icon at the top right corner of the checkout editor.

Remove an app

You can remove an app from your checkout. If you want to remove an app completely from your Shopify admin, then you need touninstall the app.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go toSettings>Checkout.
2. In theCheckout customizationsection, clickCustomizenext to the checkout that you want to edit.
3. Click the app that you want to remove from your checkout.
4. ClickRemove app from checkout.
5. ClickSave.
