[MUSIC PLAYING] Goals help us take the necessary steps to achieve success. I've said it before-- goals are a dream with a process and a deadline. Once you have that deadline, it's no longer a pipe dream. You're committed. In this lesson, I'm going to teach you how to create 10 exciting goals for your business and your life. I have 10 goals now, and I have had these 10 goals for over the past 30 years.

Now, let me make this clear. Those goals have changed over the past 30 years, and I adjust them. As I mentioned earlier, I was impacted by Napoleon Hill's Principles of Goal Setting. I love them, and I use them. But I've also remixed them and added my own spin on my goal setting. I'm sure you're going to do that after you learn to master them. So let's get right to it.

Here are the seven steps to setting your goals. Number one, get clear on what it is you want. In the worksheet below, brainstorm a list of goals that you want to achieve. Don't limit yourself, and don't doubt yourself. This is a brain dump. You should have at least 20 ideas written down. Write down the goals with as much clarity as possible. For example, don't write down, lose 25 pounds.

Write, I feel vibrant and alive at 175 pounds. I want you to pause this video right now and do that right now. Number two, choose your top 10 goals and visualize them. After you brainstorm your big list, it's time to pare them down to your top 10. Choose six that expire in six months, and the other four expire in two years, five years, 10 years, and 20 years.

Once you've chosen your top 10, take some time to visualize and experience achieving them. For example, if you wrote down in 10 years you want to build a house for you and your family, I want you to actually feel how warm the doorknob is when you open that beautiful door. Or smell the baking bread as you walk into your home with your kids running around.

Now, I want you to understand the power of visualization. They say when a car is heading towards a wall, the place you're not supposed to look at is the wall because you're visualizing that you will hit it. You're supposed to look away. And this is extremely powerful, all right? So what I want you to do is pause the video now and visualize it. Now, I'm serious about pausing the video. Just take a second. Don't run through this, and let this wash over you. Take one minute to just pause the video, and think about what you really want.

Number three, determine what you will do to achieve your goals. OK. Now, you have your list of your top 10 goals, and you have written down if you're aiming to achieve them in six months, two years, five years, 10 years, and 20 years. Now it's time to start brainstorming your actions to create momentum to achieve your goals. Now, let me explain to you how to create actions to achieve your goals.

Let's say you want to lose a certain amount of weight between now and six months from now-- let's say it is 20 pounds. Well, you want to aim high. So you basically want to say I will lose 2 pounds a week. So now you're breaking it down. And how are we going to lose 2 pounds a week? Are you going to supplement one meal with a green drink? Are you going to walk 10,000 steps a day? Will you stop eating at 6:00 PM, or will you have protein shakes-- stop eating fried foods, meats, or whatever the case, or just cut it down.

You don't always have to go cold turkey. Maybe you will cook at home three nights a week or six nights a week. Anyway, I want you to start saying how you're going to create actions to achieve that goal. If you left today and you were going from, let's say, Boston to California, you are going to create action steps on how you get there. The end goal is to get to California. But are you going to walk, take a train, a plane, hitchhike, take a car, transfer over to hear, transfer over there?

You need to have small action items on how you're going to achieve that bigger goal. Remember, it's action that produces results. Please pause the video and start now. Number four, set a deadline. Beside each goal, write the actual date that you're aiming to achieve the goal. Now, here's what I do. I write my six months-- they all expire at the same time. I don't want one expiring 4 and 1/2 months, 6 and 1/2 months.

I want them all to expire in the same time. Now, transfer that goal into your calendar of choice. When you schedule your goal, it becomes real. Number five, create a plan and start it immediately. For the goals you have in six months, you can take immediate action on them. Don't get overwhelmed. Think of the small actions you can take every day and every week. I'm talking small actions.

Think about it like this. If you have a certain goal that you are trying to be with your family more often, when you wake up in the morning and you read your goals, just schedule a time to be at dinner, call your mother, go over a house today-- tomorrow-- this week-- small actions. If you're looking for a new position, start working half an hour on your resume every day. Make 30 calls every day.

Make three calls every day. I'm not talking about changing your world. I'm talking about these small steps, but they start to compound. Imagine if you made five calls every single day in the effort to whether find funding or new manufacturers. Think about how many calls that would have been after six months. They start to compound. Maybe you're trying to get in shape. You know what?

Do 25 push-ups that morning. Before you know it, by the end of six months, you'll be doing 100 push-ups with ease. It just is a little step that you need to take towards each one of those goals. Number six, read your statement out loud at least twice daily. Now, here's what I happened to do. I read my goals before I go to bed at night, and when I wake up in the morning. The reason I read them then is because I'm often on the road-- there's a lot of peace and quiet.

And they say there's almost 80% of the things that you think about when you go to sleep is what you either fear or want to happen when you are dreaming. And we've all seen movies that we are dreaming about the movie the entire night and we have a bad dream or a good dream-- why? Because that's the last thing that you put into your mind. That's why I read my goals before I go to bed. The reason they're the first thing I do when I wake up is because I take one small action towards them.

Read them as if they're already happening. I want you to read your goals out loud at least twice daily. I do this at least five times a week. Listen, I give two days out of the week for my mind to rest. I read them before I go to bed, and at night, and first thing in the morning when I wake up. Number seven, be willing to make changes and evaluate your goals on a weekly or daily basis. Change is inevitable in our fast-paced world, so make sure you understand that you have to be agile.

Listen, if you want to start off with three or four because 10 is too many, then start off there. I didn't start off with 10. I started off with two or three. But now, at this point in my life, I know how to master and read all 10 of them. Number three, determine what you will do to achieve your goals.

What effort are you going to put into making sure that these goals happen? And please remember, you can start off extremely small. It will grow. It will keep growing. Also, set a deadline. Set a deadline. I'm not saying that you're going to achieve all those goals in the deadline. Listen, I want you to set your goals super, super high. I want you to never achieve those goals because you're going to reset them and reset them.

And once you become a millionaire, I want you to become a billionaire. I want you to keep setting those goals, right? And if you want to lose weight, I want you to be as healthy as you can. So you can never be too healthy. Keep resetting them. Number five, create a plan, and started immediately. You know what happens when you say I'll get to it tomorrow. I'll get to tomorrow-- one day-- one day-- one day. No goal in the world is ever important than the ones you set for yourself because I'm telling you right now-- you know what you're thinking about?

You're setting a goal already on the meeting you need to be at tomorrow, the train you need to be on, the plane you need to be in. What about you? What's your goals? Set them and start doing them immediately. Read your statement out loud at least twice daily. Try it twice-- if you can't get to twice-- at least once. But please get it two times. I hope you do it like I do-- before you go to bed and when you wake up. I find that to be the most effective.

Number seven, be willing to make changes and evaluate your goals on a weekly or daily basis. If you know that there is a goal that you set, and you have tried everything, and you've left everything on the field, then at least you know you gave it the best effort. Scratch that one and put a new one in.

Remember that whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. Every single thing that you see in the world started off with one person-- one idea that took one action, and you could be the next person to do that.
