Shopify Announces New EMV Credit Card Reader That Accepts Chip and Pin, and Apple Pay

OTTAWA, Canada –Shopify Inc.– (“Shopify”) (NYSE:SHOP) (TSX:SH), a leading cloud-based multichannel commerce platform, today announced the launch of its new credit card reader that will allow Shopify merchants in the U.S. to securely accept chip and pin, tap, and swipe credit and debit cards as well as contactless payment technologies like Apple Pay™.
The new card reader is designed for Shopify POS, the company’s iPad® and iPhone® point of sale system used by merchants in retail and pop up stores. Ordering the new credit card reader will allow merchants to prepare for the credit card industry’s October 1, 2015 EMV liability shift. Shopify is currently accepting pre-orders, with card readers to ship in Q4 2015.
