Briogeo founder Nancy Twine left her career on Wall Street to start a clean hair care company, inspired by her mother and grandmother’s home-concocted formulas. While clean hair care is a trend in 2023, it was a new category when Nancy launched her brand Briogeo 10 years ago.
“I’ve always been taught to take smart risks,” Nancy says. “So I knew that if I was going to leave my career in finance to start my own company, I wanted to feel really good about what I was going to embark on.”

Nancy did everything she could to mitigate risk. In the early days, she was bootstrapping the business and working onBriogeonights and weekends while she tried to prove out the concept.
Those calculations and late nights paid off. Briogeo scored a partnership with Sephora, and in 2022, the company was acquired by Wella Company. Nancy still holds the position of CEO.
